Neal Prevost: Helping Homeowners With Solar Problems and Texans Facing Debt
Neal Prevost has practiced law since 1993. In that time, he has handled more than 4,000 cases in family law and consumer law, including a case before the Supreme Court of Texas, PNC Mortgage v. John and Amy Howard. Much of his work has involved helping everyday people.
In 2024, Neal spent time helping his sons with their business, and kept finding the same problems on homeowners’ roofs: solar panels that didn’t work, roofs damaged during installation, and warranties nobody would honor.
Neal and operations manager John Smith (yes, that's his real name) looked into it. They found thousands of homeowners with nowhere to turn. Prevost Law Firm became one of the first firms to represent solar homeowners at scale.
How we help solar homeowners
Prevost Law Firm handles disputes involving solar installers, lenders and financing companies. Some homeowners have a system that never worked or never got permission to operate. Others were promised savings or tax credits that never showed up, or their installer went out of business and stopped answering the phone.
Every case starts with a no-cost claim review of your contract, loan documents and situation. If we take your case, you’ll know upfront what the retainer covers and how fees work. Depending on the facts, potential outcomes may include a loan reduction or cancellation, refunds, removal of UCC filings, or other relief. Every case is different, and prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
Chapter 7 bankruptcy
In 2026, Neal brought Chapter 7 bankruptcy back to the firm. It was a big part of his practice earlier in his career, and he has handled many bankruptcy cases.
Bankruptcy is another way we help consumers. We help Texans from all walks of life who are struggling with debt, whether they’ve fallen behind or are current on every bill with nothing left over. Even for clients with solar struggles, sometimes a solar claim isn’t the best path. The claim may be too small for Prevost Law Firm to pursue, it may take longer than you want to wait, or you may have other debts weighing on you too.

Mr. Prevost's clients were the prevailing parties, proving that the bank wrongfully foreclosed on their home. After nearly 14 years of litigation, and after all lawful offsets and credits were given to the Howards, the courts concluded that the Howards no longer owed anything on their mortgage of over $800,000.
